Stopping Gang Activities in Prison with Securus Technologies

I work as a corrections officer in one of the most deadly prisons in the country. The gangs have taken over our jail, and it is a daily struggle to keep the peace between inmates and officers, as well as inmates and other gang members. If we let down our guard for even a minute, things could become dangerous for everyone. Trying to keep the peace in this jail is all about keeping contraband out of the hands of all the gang members.

Last year we would spend a considerable amount of time at the visitor center trying to stop guests from bringing things to the inmates they could use to hurt others. Even with the threat of jail for anyone who things of bringing something to the jail, they still try. reason being for this, low-level gang members on the street want to earn credibility with the gang, so they will do whatever it takes when the high-ranking gang members ask for soldiers to step up for their brothers.

To help in our efforts to control gang violence, our prison has called in Securus Technologies to help. This company is headed by CEO Richard Smith, and his Dallas-based company of well over a thousand employees all are working for one objective, making our world safe. We took advantage of the new inmate call system they installed, and used the LBS software to begin monitoring calls the inmates would make.

Within weeks we started to get some major activity on the phones. We picked up conversations about gang members orders others to sell drugs for the group, gang members ordering soldiers to come to the jail with contraband, and even where the gangs hid there contraband. Our efforts using the call monitoring system has made our prison safer from day one.
